Mike is an ordained Pastor and the Executive Director of Counseling. He serves on the Sagemont Church Leadership Team and has led the Sagemont Counseling Center since 2001.
Mike’s counseling approach is clinically professional & distinctively Christian. He is certified by the State of Texas as a Licensed Professional Counselor (Supervisor) and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Mike earned the Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1986 and graduated with a Master of Science degree in Guidance and Counseling from Missouri State University in 1982.
Mike has over thirty-five years of professional counseling experience, including numerous administrative and clinical functions. Prior to assuming his leadership role at Sagemont, he served as the President of Rapha, a nationally recognized Christian organization specializing in the provision of counseling programs and recovery resources to multiple psychiatric hospitals and outpatient settings throughout the country.
While having counseling expertise in a variety of clinical areas, including mood, anxiety, and personality disorders, Mike specializes in marriage therapy. In addition, he has advanced training in Eye Movement Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), a scientifically validated approach to trauma recovery.
He is the author of three books: Spin Cycle – Getting Off and Staying Off the Drama Triangle; Spin Cycle Workbook – Hope and Handles to Deal with Internal Tension and External Conflict; and Changing Course – A Proven Path to Renewed Hope, Confidence, Wisdom, and Strength.
Mike and his wife, Laurie, have been married since 1982, and have three adult children.
